Patek Philippe, founded in 1839 in Geneva, Switzerland, represents the pinnacle of Swiss watchmaking. Known for its uncompromising standards, innovative complications, and timeless designs, Patek Philippe has created some of the most coveted timepieces in horological history. The Calatrava, introduced in 1932 with the Reference 96, is perhaps the most iconic dress watch ever created. Designed by David Penney shortly after the Stern family acquired the company, the Calatrava embodied the Bauhaus principle of form following function. Its clean lines, perfect proportions, and understated elegance have made it the archetype of the classic dress watch, setting a standard that continues to influence watch design nearly a century later.

Notes

This Patek Philippe features a 31mm 18K yellow gold case that sits in overall fair condition that has likely received a polish at some point. Its white dial has some noticeable marks atop the “swiss” notation at 6 o’clock. Additionally, its sub-seconds hand has marked a visible small ring to its center. Its applied hour markers have also experienced notable patina. It sports dauphine hands, and an un-stamped crown. The watch is powered by a manual movement and is fitted with a crocodile leather strap. Overall, this Calatrava 96 sits in fair vintage condition, showing noticeable wear throughout.
