Hamilton was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1892, originally gaining prominence for producing highly accurate railroad pocket watches essential for train safety. By the mid-20th century, Hamilton had expanded into wristwatches and became known for blending American manufacturing with Swiss movements, especially after acquiring the Swiss Buren Watch Company in 1966. This acquisition introduced innovations like the micro-rotor automatic movement, allowing slimmer watch designs. The late 1960s marked a transition as Hamilton shifted production entirely to Switzerland, ending its American manufacturing operations in 1969. During this period, Hamilton watches combined Swiss technical expertise with American design heritage, producing models that reflected changing tastes and technological advances in the watch industry.
