Gruen, founded in 1894 in Cincinnati, Ohio, was one of the largest and most influential American watch manufacturers through the first half of the 20th century. The company became especially renowned for its innovative case and movement designs, blending Swiss and American watchmaking expertise. In 1935, Gruen introduced the Curvex-a revolutionary wristwatch that featured a curved case and, crucially, a curved movement designed to follow the contour of the wrist. This allowed for a larger, more robust movement in a slim, elegant case, setting the Curvex apart from competitors who used flat movements in curved cases. By the 1940s, Curvex models had become Gruen’s flagship line, celebrated for their streamlined Art Deco styling and engineering ingenuity.

This Gruen Curvex features a 23mm wide and 42mm lug-to-lug 10 karat yellow gold filled case that sits in overall good condition for its age. Its sports some visible wear throughout most notably to its lugs where there’s is light wear and material loss. Its silvered dial has visual wear across its entire surface. It sports applied hour markers and sword hands alongside an eye-catching sub-seconds complication. Its crown has a rose gold finish and was likely replaced at one point. This piece is powered by a 17-jeweled manual-wind movement and is fitted with a red genuine leather strap. Overall, this Gruen sits in fair vintage condition, showing wear consistent with its age.
