Girard Perregaux
Girard Perregaux
This Girard Perregaux timepiece was crafted in approx. the 1960s or early 1970s. During this period, Girard Perregaux was at the forefront of horological innovation, particularly in the development of high-frequency movements. During the 1960s, Girard Perregaux was one of the few watch manufactures to have an in-house R&D team, which enabled them to develop several revolutionary movements.
Design and Construction
This Girard Perregaux features a refined rose gold-plated case with a steel case back, measuring approximately 33mm in diameter with a lug-to-lug length of about 37mm. These dimensions reflect the trend towards more modest-sized watches that was prevalent in the 1960s and early 1970s, contrasting with the larger sizes that would become popular in later decades. The combination of rose gold plating and steel case back was a common practice to balance aesthetics with durability and cost-effectiveness. The case on this particular piece is in beautiful condition with light, even oxidization across the body.
Movement
At the heart of this timepiece beats the manual-wind A. Schild 1130 caliber, featuring 17 jewels. A. Schild was a significant Swiss movement manufacturer that became part of ASUAG (later part of the Swatch Group) in 1966. The AS 1130 was known for its reliability and ease of service, making it a popular choice for many watch brands of the era. The movement in this Girard Perregaux runs well at the time of listing, but has not been bench tested for precise accuracy.
Signature Features
The sub-seconds complication adds a touch of flare to this watch's functionality. This feature, combined with the silver textured dial, exemplifies Girard Perregaux's attention to detail and commitment to both form and function.
Dial and Aesthetics
The silver textured dial offers excellent legibility against its intricate backdrop. Protected by a plastic crystal, the face of this watch maintains a timeless appeal.
Strap and Wearability
This Girard Perregaux comes fitted with a genuine leather strap measuring approximately 7 inches (not including watch head).
