Produced in approx. the 1970s / early 1980s, this Vindicator model represents a fascinating chapter in Croton's history. During this period, Croton was navigating the challenges of the quartz crisis that affected many traditional watchmakers, making this mechanical, manually-wound, Croton a testament to the brand's resilience and commitment to craftsmanship.

Design and Construction

This Croton features a refined stainless steel case measuring approximately 31mm in diameter, with a lug-to-lug length of about 38mm. These dimensions reflect the trend towards smaller, more understated watches that emerged in the 1970s, contrasting with the larger sizes that dominated earlier decades. The stainless steel clamshell case on this Croton shows to be in beautiful condition.

Movement

At the heart of this timepiece beats the manual-wind A. Schild caliber 1187/94, featuring 17 jewels. The movement bears the COW stamp, which indicates it was imported by Croton for the US market. This stamp reflects the partnership between Nivada and Croton at the time for distribution in the United States. The movement in this piece runs well at the time of listing, but has not been bench tested for precise accuracy.

Signature Features

The consistent and warm patina across the face of this piece, combined with the immaculate condition of its case, provides a great juxtaposition and balance. This watch wears like new, yet retains that vintage flair that many have come to love.

Dial and Aesthetics

The patina'd dial exudes vintage charm, offering excellent legibility against its clean backdrop. Protected by a plastic crystal, the face of this watch perfectly captures the aesthetic sensibilities of the 1970s and early 1980s while maintaining its timeless appeal.

Strap and Wearability

This Croton Vindicator comes fitted with a lizardcalf strap measuring approximately 7 inches (not including watch head), adding a touch of luxury to its overall presentation. The combination of its compact case size and comfortable strap ensures that this piece sits elegantly on the wrist.
