The Rolex Date Ref. 1501 was introduced in the mid-1950s as a slightly smaller alternative to the flagship Datejust. By the 1970s, the Ref. 1501 was offered with a variety of dial and bezel options, including the distinctive engine-turned fluted bezel seen on many examples. The Caliber 1570 automatic movement inside is regarded as one of Rolex’s most robust and widely used chronometer-rated calibers from this era, featuring a quickset date and 26 jewels.

This Rolex features a 35mm steel case and yellow gold fluted bezel that sits in overall good condition. It looks to have received a polish at one point and showcases some light scratches throughout. Most notably to its case back where an engraving stating “Merry Christmas Love Dad 12-25-02” is present. Its grey dial is clean, with some visible spotting around its lume plots and a mark of oxidization between 11 and 12 o’clock. It sports what looks to be resumed hands and a date window at 3 o’clock. This piece is powered by a freshly serviced 26-jeweled Rolex caliber 1570 movement and is fitted with a hollow linked two tone bracelet with a steel Rolex branded buckle. Overall, this Rolex sits in good vintage condition, showing wear consistent with its age.
